YouTube was hacked this morning, and many popular music videos were defaced, including thevideo for the hit song Despacito, as well as videosby Shakira, Selena Gomez, Drake and Taylor Swift. According to the BBC story,\"A Twitter account that apparently belongs to one of the hackers posted: 'It's just forfun, I just use [the] script 'youtube-change-title-video' and I write 'hacked'.\"
YouTube will launch a new subscription music service, the company acknowledged Tuesday after being dragged into a public dispute over royalties that will result in the blockade of some independent artists' music videos. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1449240174198-2'); }); The Google Inc.-owned video site said in a statement that it is \"adding subscription-based features for music on YouTube\" and that \"hundreds of major label and independent artists\" have signed on.
YouTube will block the music videos so users of the test version won't be confused about which content they can access for free and which features require payment, the people said. Allowing free streams of music by certain artists while not offering them on the paid service would erode the value of the paid plan, one person said.
Alison Wenham, CEO of the Worldwide Independent Network, another trade group representing indie labels, said in a statement that YouTube's decision to blockade some labels was a \"grave error of commercial judgment.\" She said services like Spotify and Deezer have done a better job representing independent music on their platforms. 2014 The Associated Press. The reality is that people sure do love to watch music videos (and lyric videos and even videos with static images that feature music) and that helped YouTube become the number one destination for music discovery. Just the fact that videos are attached to the music is a differentiator for Music Key right there. Other services offer music videos as well, but not as a primary offering and not with as large a catalog as YouTube.
Of course, both Google and YouTube already have separate music subscription services and this move will merge the two, with the intention of providing a more streamlined and cogent vehicle for both the audience and the industry. But what happens to current subscribers Google has approximately five million signed up to Play Music, with a similar figure on YouTube Red. Both audiences will be rolled into new subscription models as the company looks to retain its existing audience, while expanding the overall reach.
Android Police has leaked images of the new service and reports that YouTube Music Key will allow users to listen to more than 20 million tracks without ad interruptions, store their playlists offline and has an audio-only playback feature for music videos for when other tabs are open on a mobile device.
Music Key subscribers will reportedly get access to content exclusive to YouTube like concert footage, covers and remixes. While there is no word on when the service will go live, Google has purchased the domain name youtubemusickey.com.
Meanwhile, it's not just the tech giants that have entered the fray. Famed musician Neil Young has taken to Kickstarter to fund his digital music service PonoMusic and T-Mobile has teamed up with Rhapsody to create unRadio, for which subscribers can pay $4 a month. And that still leaves stalwarts like Pandora and Spotify, with valuations of $5.6 billion and $4 billion respectively.
Youtube is reportedly planning to launch a paid music streaming service that would compete directly with Spotify (SPOTIFY) and Apple Music, and go a long way toward appeasing record executives who complain the site takes too big a bite of their revenues. 59ce067264
